This is the site I check every day. A great sailing day is following winds and calm seas. The best wind is between 10 knots and 20 knots.
At 20 knots I reduce sail with a reef in the main, and roll up the genoa a bit. At 25 knots, I'll usually stay at anchor, but if needed, a second reef will keep me safe even as much as 35 knots. I also watch wave size and direction on this site. Waves up to 10 feed are no problem, depending on direction.
Wind and waves effect where I anchor, too. I look for an anchorage that is sheltered from waves, and wind.
